Fifth grade played a wild game (get it?) of "Eat or Be Eaten" by making the longest food chains of predators and prey.

Our first grade classroom had some very special furry visitors! Bruno and his poodle friend Quincy came to visit, and we couldn’t have been more excited! What made this visit extra special was getting to learn from one of our very own Berthold students, Adela, who has put in the time, dedication, and hard work to help Bruno become a certified service dog. What an incredible opportunity for our students to see firsthand the commitment, patience, and teamwork that goes into training a service dog and to learn that amazing opportunities can come from right within our own school community! The first graders loved petting, watching, and learning more about the important job a service dog can do. We are so proud of Adela for all of the hard work she has put into this journey, and we are so thankful she shared it with our class!🐕‍🦺💜

Is it a Soup, Salad, or Sandwich?

When class started, the science students had to debate using the scientific principle of CER. which is Claim, Evidence, and Reasoning. This activity was a good introduction on the year that made the students debate with something that the students know quite well, food. First, we had to establish criteria that defines the differences between soup, salad, and sandwich. After we established the criteria, they had to look at different foods like mash potatoes and claim with evidence if it was a soup, salad, or sandwich. This spurned a lot of discussion that had the students puzzled to what is what. This also established how specific your criteria had to be before you could use it as evidence. It was a good start to the year with a lot of healthy debate and thinking just about food.

The Berthold 5th grade class have chosen their instruments! We have a wide variety of instruments, and the students are all very enthusiastic to learn!! All of them have been taught to play some notes already, so be ready to hear some sounds out of the instruments at home soon!

Dear parents of students in grades 6-12,

First District Health Unit of Kenmare will be coming to the school on Wednesday September 9th for a back-to-school immunization clinic. Letters are being sent out to parents of children who need vaccines. Please keep an eye out for these letters. Sixth graders made their own versions of cave paintings in their exploration into artifacts and archeology. They had to identify shapes and figures in the textured paper - they showed fabulous imaginations!
