🛑 Your car can stop faster than a fully loaded truck.

Large trucks need more time and distance to slow down or stop.

That's why one of the most important lessons for new drivers is simple:

Don't cut closely in front of a truck after passing. Give them room.

Last spring, our special education program was the recipient of a generous grant from the Small Towns Big Dreams Foundation! ✨ This grant was used to directly support “Kenna’s Cups”- a customizable drink shop that allows students to practice real-life job skills. ☕️McKenna Ritteman receives Lotus and coffee drink orders from staff, prepares them, and delivers them each week. The STBD grant funded a brand new ice machine and a large amount of drink supplies!
We are so appreciative of the kind donation! 💜💛

🚛 Can the truck driver see you?

Large trucks have significant blind spots around the front, back and sides of the vehicle.

One simple rule for new drivers:

If you can't see the truck driver in the truck's mirror, don't assume the driver can see you.

Learn where a truck's blind spots are — and how to safely navigate around them — through the NDMCA Teen Driving Center.

Parents: Share this with your teen and see how much they know about a truck's blind spots.

🧡 A heartfelt THANK YOU to the Trey Holston Memorial for the generous $1,000 donation to purchase winter clothing for Berthold School students! Your kindness will help keep our students warm and ready to learn during the cold months ahead. We’re grateful for your support and the difference you’re making for our kids. ❄️🧤 Thank you for wrapping our students in warmth and kindness!

Learning to drive doesn’t stop when they leave driver’s ed. Some of the most important lessons happen with a parent or trusted adult sitting in the passenger seat.

As your teen gains experience behind the wheel, help them learn how to safely share the road with large trucks and commercial vehicles.

The NDMCA Teen Driving Center provides interactive resources you can explore together, including:

🚛 Understanding a truck’s blind spots
🛑 Why trucks need more room to stop
↪️ How to safely navigate around wide turns
🚗 Tips for safely sharing the road with commercial vehicles

Take a few minutes to explore it with your teen — then talk about what they learned the next time you’re in the car together.

🍂💜 Fall fun with our Bomber Buddies! 💛🍂

Our high school and elementary buddies teamed up for a fall scavenger hunt, following clues, taking on challenges, and exploring our school grounds—including the Berthold Arboretum! They also got creative painting and carving pumpkins together! 🎃

We were especially grateful to welcome Dick Debertin, a former Berthold VoAg teacher and one of the arboretum’s founders, who helped plant its trees in the late 1960s and early 1970s. What a special opportunity for our students to connect with someone who helped create this outdoor classroom! 🌳

From the trees planted decades ago to the friendships growing today, there is so much to celebrate right here in Berthold. Thank you, Mr. Debertin, for helping our students connect with our school’s history! 💜💛

First grade brought science and math to life with some hands-on pumpkin learning! Our first graders brought fall learning to life through hands-on pumpkin science and math! Our little investigators explored the pumpkin life cycle, identified its parts, measured its height, weight, and circumference, and tested whether it would sink or float. We even counted the seeds and discovered our pumpkin had 362 seeds! Happy Fall! 🍁🎃

🎓 Our seniors took an exciting step toward their futures during College Application Day, applying to the colleges of their choice!

We are proud of these students and so grateful they are part of our Berthold School family. Good luck, seniors, as you prepare for your next chapter—we’re cheering you on every step of the way! 💜💛

The Berthold 4th graders have become real-estate agents for a haunted neighborhood! Be sure to stop by and read their persuasive writing on why you should buy their house! The houses are on display outside the classroom.

Seven students from Berthold attended Surround the State in Song that was held in Minot on Sat. Oct. 10th. They practiced with many students from other area schools for the day, and then performed in a concert in the afternoon. The concert was amazing, and the students learned so much!

Today, I attended the funeral of Aaron Lentz. The church was packed with family, friends, and people whose lives he had touched. Among them were two football teams—the Minot High Magicians coached by Chauncey Hendershot  and the Lewis and Clark Longhorns coached by Paul Rudolph—showing up to support their teacher, coach, teammate, and friend grieving someone they loved. As I sat in the back of the church, I was reminded that some of the most meaningful lessons we teach happen outside a classroom. Public schools teach academics, but we also help children learn how to be part of a community. We teach them to look beyond themselves, recognize when others are hurting, and understand that sometimes the most important thing they can do is simply show up.  Today, those lessons were visible in the presence of these young men. Football brought them together as teammates. Compassion brought them into that church. I sat there as a proud mother-in-law, mother, principal, teacher, former athletic director, and former coach. My pride was rooted in seeing our students demonstrate care and respect during a difficult day. Thank you to superintendents Marc Ritteman and Scott Faul for allowing these young men to attend, support the Lentz family, and stand beside members of their school communities. Thank you to the coaches, staff, and families who help teach these values every day. To the Lentz family: you are loved, and our school communities stand with you. Rest in peace, Aaron Lentz.
