Students "correctly" reading The Great Gatsby

Group reading was especially entertaining as students read Chapter 4.

As I made my way around the room I couldn't help but smile at the comments I was hearing...

Passing a group of girls I heard them holding back their laughter as they tried to pronounce the difficult last names.

Another group was caught up on the fact that one of the girls had a cousin with the same last name as a character in the book.

The group of all boys in the back were discussing if they should read full pages or paragraphs. All of a sudden one of them had the grand idea to read ONE WORD at a time. I quickly interjected, telling them they were not doing that. However, after my loop around the room, I came back to find they were rebelliously (but also entertainingly) reading one word at a time. Trying to maintain a straight face, I quickly shut them down and did not leave until they continued correctly. I left shaking my head but with the hint of a grin on my face.

Despite the hiccups, students were able to finish reading Chapter 4 in preparation for class tomorrow.
