Experimental Results

The Chemistry students are talking on the periodic table and how to recognize trends or patterns in the periodic table. The experiment they performed was called All in the Family. They did an experiment to see which element in the halogens (fluorine, chlorine, bromine, Iodine, and astatine) was the most reactive. They mixed difference chemicals together to create separate layers and they saw a color change for jars 1,2, and 4 saw a reaction of a color change while jars 3,5, and 6. Jars 1 and 2 had chlorine in them that both layers were clear and colorless to start. Jars 3 and 4 had bromine in them with top layer was orange and bottom layer is yellow. Jars 5 and 6 with the top layer is dark purple and bottom layer is a lighter purple. The result are found in the pictures above and below. This experiment proved that Fluorine is the most reactive nonmetal, followed by chlorine, than bromine, and than iodine.
